A common question keeps coming up each year in Scripture class- 'where did God come from?' or 'who made God?' I know how I would answer it, but I'm curious- how would you answer this one?
"Let's just say that Zadam made God. What would your next question be? (Who made Zadam?). Well Tilpan made Zadam. What would you next question be? (Who made Tilpan?) etc..."
And then I would say that God always has been. In describing God the Bible says that he is from everlasting to everlasting. This means he has always been. So no-one made God - he's always been - and he's the one who made the universe and us.
Time is actually a human concept and so if you think about it God is beyond the boundaries of time and even space because he created both things.... Our limited understanding of time limits any chance we have to understand exactly how this is possible... but for any creation of the world argument there always has to be a beginning and something to start it off... therefore no matter whether you are an aetheist or creationist there is always going to be something that existed before time started... ie something that transcends the laws of time as we humans understand it.
Probably not the best answer for a child but certainly one that will get adults and even youth thinking.
David- we meet again in blogsville! I like your explanation. Chris- good explanation but may need a kid who will grow up to be an Einstein to understand it...
How's mine- we and not like God- we need someone to make us. We have a beginning. But God doesn't need anyone to make Him- he has no beginning!

Since saying that God is a thing that does not require a creator is a strong claim, is an appeal to scripture like Dave's, above, the only recourse to back up this claim?
